Coyotes Acquire Vermette From Columbus

The Phoenix Coyotes made an upgrade to their offense, acquiring Antonie Vermette from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for two draft picks (2nd round in 2012, 5th round in 2013) and minor league goaltender Chris McElinney.

Vermette had a breakout season with the Blue Jackets in the 2009-2010 season, scoring career highs in goals (27), assists (38) and points (65), but has seen his production drop off since. The 29-year-old had 19 goals and 28 points last year and has 8 goals and 19 assists in 60 games this season.

Still, Coyotes general manager Don Maloney is excited to add Vermette to his roster.

“We are extremely pleased to acquire Antonie,” Maloney said. “He’s a smart, skilled, two-way center who will be a great addition to our lineup.”

Vermette has played in 600 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and the Ottawa Senators.
